4 New Albums
August 7, 2018 3:05 pm4 New Albums Released in 7 Days!
Yes, 4 new albums released in the past 7 days.
Well, ok, I’ll level with you. As composer, I’ve not had a whole self-penned 4 new albums released. I have had a total of 11 tracks (I think) released across 4 different library music albums.
A mixture of positive indie/rock, country-folk electronica, tension and blistering trailer sound design.
See if you can guess which cover is which ;)
As a production music composer, you can spend weeks or months writing new music that never seemingly gets released. Then, BAAAAM! It all drops at once, making you look like a truly prolific writing genius. I can attest that this isn’t the case. Its months of plugging away, analysing every EQ tweak and compressor setting and doubting every one. To then finally have all your hard work set forth onto the world for you to realise this: shit! I should have added more cowbell. Too late now, bub. Cowbell is done.
Next time I’ll remember more cowbell.
On to the next project (that was actually started a year or so ago) with the ever-patient Chris Pennie. You may remember him from such bands as Dillinger Escape Plan and Coheed & Cambria. Being a big fan of DEP, it’s very hard not to fanboy the shit out of our chats and keep asking for DEP tidbits. I have remained fairly reserved. Just. To give you a small insight, it’s an album of jagged math-core loveliness. It’s been a total blast to write so far. It does take longer than your clap-tastic ukulele tracks but it’s worth it. We’re hoping for a release sometime in the autumn. The fall if you’re American. Probably still summer if you’re Australian. Or at least their ‘summer lite’. When it’s below 40 degrees.
The Greatest Show, man!
Other work this week has included doing some live session work for ‘The Greatest Show’. The show is currently touring the UK. I’m pencilled in to do around 20 shows over the summer. Originally, a fully licensed and cleared show based on The Greatest Showman, FOX pulled the rights at the last minute. A huge shame but they’ve managed to pull off a great show featuring tunes from ‘The Greatest Showman’, ‘Wicked’, ‘Moana’, ‘Frozen’, ‘Mama Mia’ and loads more i’ve currently forgotten. Even though I just finished a weekend of playing 2 shows a day. That’s age for you. Thank god for the dots.
